Intimacy and Sex

Intimacy and sex mean different things to different people. One is certainly possible without the other, but most couples experience frustration with each other when their needs are not being met.

Our sex drives may not always sync with our partner’s due to

  • fluctuating hormones
  • stress
  • performance anxiety
  • body image worries
  • physical dysfunctions
  • phobias
  • past sexual trauma.

In many cases, this can put severe strain on the relationship. Other factors affecting intimacy and sexual relationships include infidelity and pornography addiction.

Sex is not always the easiest conversation topic, so couples may choose to ignore their frustrations to keep the peace. Unfortunately, this is not a good coping strategy over the long term, as resentment quietly builds.

Through intimacy and sex counselling, I assist couples and individuals in effectively communicating their dissatisfaction and desires, identifying and addressing deep-seated areas of concern and implementing simple strategies designed to slowly reintroduce that spark they may be missing.
